Graphite Flakes
PZT-GRF-1 graphite flakes are crystalline carbon with a lamellar (layered) structure, supplied as either natural (mined) or artificial/synthetic material - a distinction with real cost and classification consequences. The layered crystal structure allows individual sheets to slide over one another, providing a solid lubricant film at the bit and bottom-hole-assembly/well-bore interface, reducing metal-to-metal and metal-to-formation friction. Effective across a wide temperature range, including conditions where liquid lubricants break down or emulsify, with a secondary bridging function in fine fractures.

Pros

Cons & Limitations
- Natural vs. synthetic graphite carry materially different sourcing, cost, and duty profiles - confirm which is actually being supplied
- Being electrically conductive, excess dosage can interfere with certain resistivity logging tools
- Must be dosed carefully to avoid excessive solids loading
