Xanthan Gum

PZT-XG-1 xanthan gum is a natural polysaccharide biopolymer produced by fermenting Xanthomonas campestris bacteria on a carbohydrate feedstock. Long polymer chains entangle in water to form a pseudoplastic network that delivers strong low-shear-rate viscosity (LSRV) for hole cleaning and cuttings suspension at rest, while shear-thinning sharply under the high shear generated at the bit and pumps - keeping equivalent circulating density (ECD) low while drilling. Effective at treat rates of 0.25–1 lb/bbl, with good tolerance of salt and hardness relative to natural gums. Thermally stable to roughly 250–300°F (121–149°C).

Pros
