PAC (Polyanionic Cellulose)
PZT-PAC-R polyanionic cellulose is a highly purified, high-degree-of-substitution sodium carboxymethyl cellulose produced to a tighter specification than standard CMC. It adsorbs onto clay and particle surfaces and thickens the aqueous phase, forming a thin, tight, low-permeability filter cake that resists filtrate invasion into the formation. Delivers more efficient fluid-loss reduction per pound and better salt tolerance than standard CMC, with thermal stability to roughly 300°F (149°C) in HT/HP-rated grades. Frequently paired with bentonite or xanthan to encapsulate shale cuttings and reduce dispersion.

Use Cases & Applications
- Fluid-loss control in WBM, especially salt-saturated and higher-temperature systems
- Encapsulating shale cuttings to reduce dispersion, usually paired with bentonite or xanthan
Pros
- Lower dosage than CMC for the same fluid-loss target
- Works in higher-salinity systems where CMC struggles
- Also helps encapsulate/stabilize reactive cuttings
Cons & Limitations
- More expensive than CMC
- Can over-viscosify the system if overdosed
- Secondary role only as a suspension viscosifier - not a substitute for xanthan
PAC-R (Regular)PZT-PAC-R
Regular-grade PAC providing efficient general-purpose filtration control with a moderate contribution to system viscosity.
PAC-LV (Low Viscosity)PZT-PAC-LV
Mid-range PAC grade balancing fluid-loss control with a moderate, controlled viscosity contribution between UL and R grades.
PAC-UL (Ultra-Low Viscosity)PZT-PAC-UL
The lowest-viscosity grade in the PAC family: fluid-loss control with minimal added viscosity, for already-viscous or high-solids systems.
All grades ship under the same product family, contact sales@petriz.co for grade-specific TDS/SDS.
