6-Speed Viscometer

The instrument the mud report is built on. A bob and sleeve rotate in the sample at six defined speeds, and the dial readings convert directly into plastic viscosity, yield point and gel strength. The spread across speeds is what matters: high-speed readings describe flow while circulating, low-speed readings describe whether cuttings stay suspended when the pumps stop. A fluid can look correct at 600 rpm and still drop its load at 3 rpm.
