The reference test for filtration control. Fluid is held against filter paper under regulated pressure and the filtrate collected over a fixed interval; the volume recovered, and the cake left behind, tell you whether the system will seal a permeable formation or bleed into it. Cake quality matters as much as filtrate volume — a thick, soft cake causes differential sticking regardless of what the numbers say.
