Wetting Agent
PZT-WET-1 wetting agent for SOBM systems ensures drill solids, cuttings, and weighting materials remain thoroughly oil-wet, preventing water-wet solids from contaminating and destabilizing the mud system. Stable up to 90°C (194°F) and tolerant up to 250,000 ppm TDS. Essential for maintaining rheological integrity and filtration control in OBM/SOBM systems, particularly when drilling reactive or high-salinity formations.

Use Cases & Applications
- Used alongside emulsifiers in every SBM/OBM system to keep weighting material and drilled solids properly oil-wet
- Preventing barite sag and solids agglomeration in OBM/SOBM systems
- Drilling reactive or high-salinity formations where solids risk turning water-wet
Pros
- Relatively small treatment volumes are effective
- Works synergistically with the emulsifier package rather than as a standalone treatment
- Prevents a slow, hard-to-diagnose failure mode - solids turning water-wet mid-well
Cons & Limitations
- Must be carefully balanced against emulsifier dosage - an imbalance can destabilize the whole emulsion
- Loses effectiveness under the same high water-phase salinity or contamination conditions that challenge emulsifiers
- Not a standalone treatment - requires correct pairing with the emulsifier package
